This information was presented to the public at the Borough Council meeting of July 11, 2018. The purpose of the presentation is the discussion of why we believe dissolving our association with the Monmouth County Library System is the best course of action and how we would structure an independent library. The amount of tax each town pays to participate in a county library is set by state statute based on a town’s ratables. Last year we paid Monmouth County Library $411,234; much more than we can possibly receive in benefits.
This matter will be considered for action at the Council’s August 8 meeting.
On a related but separate matter, a conceptual plan for a library expansion and new administrative offices at the Plaza was also introduced. This too was a presentation only on July 11; no decisions will be made on this matter at this time.
